The year 2012 saw the arrival to iOS (and later Android) of one of the most original games of the past several years. The Sandbox gave players a space to let their imaginations roam free with a virtual experimentation arena where you can make physical elements interact and then see on your screen how physics and chemistry make them react. Basically it's a type of god game with new features thrown in the mix in the form of levels to beat by achieving certain objectives and even using the worlds in action game settings. All these ideas have come together to give way to Sandbox Evolution, a much more flexible sequel that you can now download on Uptodown following its soft launch in a handful of countries.

The way it works is very simple, you get a blank canvass to 'paint' with different elements such as earth, water, lightening, metal, gas, lava and seeds. These elements, when combined with different controllable effects, such as sun, rain and temperature, will produce different results.
For example, if you plant seeds and then trigger the rain, the plants will grow. In the same way, if you melt rock, you will produce lava. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg, as there are also many other, far more complicated possibilities to discover.
Graphically, The Sandbox is impeccable. While it may not have any breathtakingly detailed visuals, it does come with a lovely pixilated retro look, which will appeal to the more nostalgic among you.
The Sandbox is a fun game that has several different game modes. All of them, along with the open nature of the game itself, results in enough hours of gameplay to make it worth installing and never deleting from your terminal.
